There is always a period of adjustment for couples who move into a new home. After everything has been put away and the furniture is in place, you start to settle in. This is the time where you actually get to know the house — that creaky step on the basement stairs or the loose floorboard in the dining room. This is the time when a house becomes a home.
One easy way to expedite this transition is to complete a few simple home improvement projects together. Probably the most popular of these early projects is putting up the window blinds. Trust us, just about anyone can handle this one.
Where to start? Using a standard tape measure, you must measure the height and width of the plantation blinds that need blinds. To make the job easier, one person can measure, while the other records the numbers. Make certain that you measure from the inside of the window frame and be as accurate as possible.
Take these numbers with you to your local home improvement centre and give them to the window treatment specialist. Remember to tell him that the measurements were taken from the inside of the frame and that you will be installing the blinds on your own.
After you have agreed on a set of blinds you both like, take the boxes home and open them up. The installation really is a breeze. All you will need is a power drill and a step ladder. Each window blind will include a small plastic packet filled with screws and metal or plastic brackets. Take the brackets and screw them to the inside of the window frame. Make certain that they are even.
Once the brackets are in place, the main rod with the blinds attached can be inserted into the brackets and covered with the valance. The entire job should only take about five minutes for each window.
